The £450,000 Stonefield House project involved extensive remodelling of an existing two-storey residential property, alongside a proposed extension of approximately 225 m² incorporating a basement and swimming pool. The development required significant structural alterations to the existing building and the integration of new structural elements to accommodate the proposed layout.
We provided a comprehensive structural design package covering internal alterations, structural steelwork, connections, masonry, suspended floors and roof structures. Our work also included the design of reinforced concrete retaining structures and foundations for the proposed basement and swimming pool, alongside coordination of the new extension with the existing building.
Throughout the project, we also provided liaison with specialist contractors and consultants where required to support the design and construction process.
The extensive remodelling required careful consideration of the existing building’s structural stability, particularly where walls were being removed and new supporting steelwork introduced. Further challenges included coordinating structural steelwork with the proposed roof alterations and developing suitable support arrangements for the new staircase. The basement and swimming pool also required consideration of ground conditions, retaining structures, drainage and waterproofing.
The structural design was developed to accommodate the proposed remodelling and extension, with revised structural details issued as the project progressed. The construction photographs demonstrate substantial progress on the new extension, including the reinforced concrete structure, masonry and supporting steel frame.
